November 9, 2013
Today is a beautiful Fall morning. Entering the month of November, from now on, I will think about that this is the month that Christian was born, Thanksgiving is this month and Chris’ Birthday and Christmas soon follow. So, I enter this month with some anxiety about the holidays and Christian’s Birthday. This will the second time her Birthday has come without her her for us to celebrate together. In all honesty, the second year without her has been harder that the first and it is extremely difficult to explain why.
But today I want to share with each of you some celebrations that have been a blessing. In September, along with Dalton First United Methodist Church Members and Volunteers from all over our community, we celebrated “Go Gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness.” The project was a huge success. It turned into someothing much larger than I orginally envisioned. Awareness about Childhood Cancer was a large part of the purpose of the project. We distributed Fact Sheets, showed a slide show and had survivors share their story. We received private gifts for the project totaling, $3,410, The Christian Bryant Foundation contributed $7,465.46, the project made gifts totaling, $10, 875.46. The recepients of the gifts were all local pediatric oncology families and they applied for services through a formal application process. The families that applied all have very significant financial needs on top of the reality that they have a child with pediatric cancer. Pediatric cancer alone, can completely strip a family of financial stability very quickly. Many parents loose jobs do to frequent hospital admissions, medical expenses are astromical and during all this, life continues and bills continue, gas for transportation has to be purchased, vehicles maintained and families feed. The Go Gold for Childhood Cancer Team was able to significantly assist 12 families: We provided 3 sets of tires, gas cards, gift cards for groceries and daily needs, a house payment, a car payment, new boots for winter for one family and we purchased some special fun gifts for the child with cancer and their siblings. This was a very humbling, worthy project. I am already thinking about how to make this a month long project in September of 2014. My personal goal with the help of some larger organizations is to turn Dalton, Chattanooga and our entire region GOLD during the month of September. Anyone that wants to be a part of this, let me know soon....this will be a reality.
October 20, 2013, was the second year that Team CMB participated in the 7 Bridges Marathon/4 Bridges Half Marathon/2 Bridges 5K and the Family Fun Run. We had 197 members on Team CMB...It was an amazingly beautiful day full of celebration for the life of a beautiful girl that loved to run. I am thankful for everyone that participated in this event, the donations for those that were not able to attend and the many prayers. I am already looking forward to next year and will be working with a team to plan to make this event something even more special. The event raised a little over $2,000 for The Christian Bryant Foundation. We were blessed to have 2 people talking pictures for our team, Alyssa Sellers and Tiffany Chadwick. You can view Tiffany Pictures at tchadwickphotography.smugmug.com She finished loading all the pictures to her website this week.
October 22, 2013 we had a fun day of visiting the following restaurants: Taco Mamacitas, Urban Stack, Community Pie and Milk and Honey. I visited 3 of the restaurants that day. This wonderful family of restaurants donated 15% of all proceeds for anyone that said they were dining to support The Chrisitian Bryant Foundation. This event donated $450.00 to The Christian Bryant Foundation.
Thank you all for your continued support of The Christian Bryant Foundation.
