December 8, 2012
This morning, I am reflecting on where we were last year this time....Last year, Christian was waiting on her counts to get high enough to be admitted for high dose chemotherapy (She was admitted December 12, 2011). We were very concerned about our friend, Turner Fordham, that had relapsed and was currently admitted starting a relapse protocol. Christian had been interviewed by James Howard with Sunny 92.3 for the 2011 Cure Kids Cancer Radio-thon. She did a live interview for the Radio-thon on December 9, 2012. This time last year our life was as normal as it can get when one of your daughters has leukemia. Christian actually felt pretty good at this time last year....
Now today our lives are so different....I was recently ask, “How would Christian want to be remembered?” My response was very quick, I said, “She would not care if she was remembered she would want to Make a Difference.” Well, today, she is Making a Difference! The Christian Bryant Foundation has received 370 gifts totaling $59,184.19 . A large gift was received from the Girls Preparatory School Class of 2012. Through this gift and some other gifts, The Christian Bryant Award has been established at Girls Preparatory School. The first award will be presented in a special assembly in May of 2013 to a rising Senior. This week, The Christian Bryant Foundation gave a gift of $1,000 to Candlelighters Family Support Group. Candlelighters is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping families diagnosed with childhood cancer or other catastrophic blood related diseases. This gift of $1,000 was used to help purchase a reliable vehicle for a family of a young boy that has relapsed and will need to travel to Atlanta for a transplant. The only vehicle the family owns currently is not operational. The Mother will need to stay local and work to maintain insurance and care for another child while her young son goes to Atlanta with his Father for a bone marrow transplant. I cannot imagine what this family is facing and I cannot imagine not being with my child, but this Mother has no other choice.
Thank you for your gifts. The Christian Bryant Foundation will be very good stewards of your gifts, we will honor the memory of Christian Bryant and we will Make a Difference.....Believe in Possibility! Robyn Bryant
